August newsletter

By Tim Hards | August 26, 2008

The August newsletter is now online.

It talks about the new Perspector Lists tool that has already been covered in this blog post and this one.

How the newsletter image was created

The newsletter features this illustration of using Perspector Lists:

Illustration of a slide with a PowerPoint bullet list, and with a 3D list created with Perspector Lists.

This newsletter image was created using Perspector Professional Edition. It was quite easy to do: first create the PowerPoint bullet-point slide, then duplicate the slide and use Perspector to convert the list (3 clicks!), then on a third slide use Perspector Professional to arrange images of the 2 slides in 3D and add the arrow. Then the image file was created using the “Save as picture” command within Perspector.

June and July newsletters

By Tim Hards | August 6, 2008

In case you missed them, the June and July newsletters are available online.

The June newsletter talks about the lighting options in Perspector. It describes how to use lights to create this image:

The July newsletter talks about the various chart properties.

These are crucial to know about it if you want to produce particular effects with Perspector charts. For example, by using the Upper Value property, you can set the maximum value shown on charts to be more than the highest data value. This bar chart shows a range of values between 0 and 100 even though the highest data value in the chart is 30:

Past newletters now available online

By Tim Hards | May 15, 2008

Last September, the Perspector newsletter was re-launched as a monthly source of tips, news, notification of new library images, and the occasional offer (two so far). Until now, you had to sign up to receive them…

From today, all of the newsletters are available online.

The newsletter archive already includes November 2007′s comprehensive coverage of Perspector 4.0:

A 3D Perspector list being edited

December 2007′s fusion of PowerPoint 2007 and Perspector:

PowerPoint 2007 reflection of a Perspector 3D image

And several other newsletters explaining Perspector in more detail: shape handles, toolbar customization, shape color, alignment and distribution.

If you like the look of these, sign up and get future newsletters sent to you.

Videos about Perspector

By Tim Hards | December 4, 2007

4 new videos have been added to the Perspector website.

They cover the basics of using Perspector:

The videos have also been uploaded to YouTube so that you can embed them in your own blogs and websites like this:

How to add an image from the Perspector library

How to convert a PowerPoint bullet list

How to add a 3D chart

How to add an image of another slide in a presentation

I’d be interested to know if you feature these anywhere.

Are there any new videos you’d like to see? Email me or leave a comment.

New look Perspector newsletter

By Tim Hards | August 31, 2007

We have redesigned our newsletter for greater clarity, and so that we can pack it with more information. A great new feature will be the Image Watch. This column will show the new images that have been added to the Perspector Library each month.

The first issue using the new look will be sent out next Tuesday (September 4th).

Here’s a small sneak preview, using some old images. You’ll have to sign up to receive the full one.

Sign up for Perspector tips, news and offers

By Tim Hards | August 14, 2007

On the Perspector download page, there’s a form to enter your email address if you want to receive tips and the Perspector newsletter.

However, if you skipped this step when you downloaded Perspector, you wouldn’t have seen the form again (because of cookies). So you’d be missing out on this useful info… until now.

The new sign-up page lets you subscribe to the newsletter, and also request the series of 4 tip emails that you missed first time.

There’s also a “Power Perspector” series of 20 weekly emails you can sign up to. This series shows some of the less obvious things that can be done with Perspector.

You can unsubscribe from these at any time by following the instructions included in the emails.

The full range of Perspector’s 3D images

By Tim Hards | June 17, 2007

The Perspector website has been updated. The gallery pages have been re-organised and improved so that it is clearer to see the images that can be produced with Perspector.

There are now 4 clearly defined gallery pages:

Library Images – the images available in the Perspector Library.

3D Charts – the different chart types and styles available in Perspector Professional Edition.

Slide and Image Layouts – the slide layouts that can be used to display images and slides.

Example Slides – slides, presentations and images created with Perspector.

All of the pages also include examples of slides that were built using these.

We made these changes because images are the best way to show what Perspector is capable of. These pages now show the full range and variety of the images accessible with Perspector.

When using Perspector these pages are excellent if you would like a quick overview of the images and styles available to you.
